Mission Statement:

The NAYFL Flag Football League exists to enable the youth of its member organizations to learn, nurture and develop skills via flag football competition by playing for a New Albany neighborhood program.  The administrators, coaches, parents and participants should never lose focus that the main objective is to provide an experience that promotes sportsmanship, integrity, and fairness that serves the best interest of the overall majority of the children who participate in our program.  We are developing a life long love for the game of football while furthering the leadership, teamwork & fundamental football basics necessary to build a competitive program.

Teams:

We will be sponsoring divisions for the K-3 grade levels. The overwhelming majority of participants will reside in the greater New Albany District. The NAYFL is committed to providing the community a competitive league for each age group – with virtually an unlimited number of teams available with no more than 90% of our population exceeding NA residents.

Games Schedule:

All practices & games will be held in New Albany, OH. The projected number of games for each team will range from 6-10. The first two weeks of practices will assume a “clinic” format allowed for coach interaction & the ability to compile fair, competitive teams across all platforms & age groups. Same as last year…….

Participant Cost:

The cost per participant will be $60 per player. There will be a 10% per player discount for additional family members.

Equipment:

All equipment will be provided to participate in the league. Player participants will all be provided practice uniforms, game jerseys (with their name on the back) & mouth pieces. Same as last year……..

League Play:

Here is a grouping of the leagues as projected by the board of directors:

  • K-1      Gold League
  • 2-3       Maroon Leagues

Questions and Answers:

(The following Q & A may help address any further items of concern)

  • Q)      Why is this NAYFL Flag Football League in existence?
    • A)     The NAYFL Flag Football League was created in direct response to a request from flag football parents for an organization to exist to help facilitate the highest level of flag football to be played by all age groups in New Albany – beginning with the K grade & ending with the 3rd grade
  • Q)     How does this program differ from New Albany Youth “tackle” Football League?
    • A)     The New Albany Flag Football League fully supports the NAYFL tackle program & believes that is serves a great purpose to the youth of New Albany. Football as a contact sport & the time commitment involved beween the two programs serves as the greatest difference. The tackle program is an entirely different youth athletic experience & might be the right choice for your son if he is in third grade or higher!
  • Q)     What kind of age range of participants will be in the NAYFL?
    • A)     The teams will be playing members of the same general age group as your son’s team. There will be a focus for each team to play all of the corresponding teams’ in the same league as designated above.
  • Q)     Who will coach the teams?
    • A)     The coaches will be selected annually by the directors of the NAYFL. The volunteer football players from the New Albany high School will play a pivotal roll in the camps & as assistant coaches within the leagues. For the most part, the overwhelming majority of coaches from last year will be returning with many more motivated individuals ready to fill-in the necessary voids.
  • Q)     When will the games be played?
    • A)     In order to accommodate for the Junior volunteers from the high school program, our game schedule will be held the same time as last year – Saturday afternoons. Otherwise, it would be impossible to incorporate these fine young men into the program & enable them to interact with your sons as mentors.
  • Q)     How many players will be on the team?
    • A)     It is the NAYFL’s belief that we will be able to conduct two separate leagues with multiple teams in each division. Based on the numbers, our projected number of players per team is eight – with five player participants on the field at any given time.
  • Q)     Will my son be guaranteed a certain amount of playing time?
    • A)     Each player will spend time through drills learning the basic techniques of football – blocking, tackling, passing, running, etc…… The NAYFL’s fundamental approach to playing time is to have each participant play every position at least once throughout the season. All participants will have multiple opportunities to carry the ball during a single season.
  • Q)      Is there a player code of conduct?
    • A)     Most definitely.  Each player will be held to a code of conduct.  The following are violations of that
      • code:  the use of profanity, fighting during a game or practice, any disrespectful actions or remarks to referees, coaches, and opposing players or coaches. Any violation may result in a suspension or removal from the team.
  • Q)     Is there a parent code of conduct?
    • A)     Most definitely.  Each parent will be held to a code of conduct.  The same violations and results above, apply to parents.  In addition, parents will not yell instructions to their sons during games or practices.  That is the job of the coach.  It is detrimental to the learning process of the players if they hear instructions from multiple sources during these times.  As a parent, you can certainly cheer and encourage your son.  However, please leave the instructing to the coaches. Each parent will be required to sign & return a “contract” agreeing to the general parameters established above. Same as last year…………..

Please feel free to contact Eric Henze (ehenze@phoenixcolor.com) or Jason Shaub (jschaub1090@yahoo.com), if you happen to have any comments, questions or concerns regarding your sons’ involvement with the program. I thank you in advance for your consideration!
