The basics of football and cheerleading

Our Mission
Acting as a single league since 2008, New Albany Youth Football League’s (NAYFL) mission is to teach the youth of New Albany and surrounding communities the fundamentals of tackle football, flag football or the skills to cheer. This instructional league is designed to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, safety, balanced competition and the respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, parents, and the community.

Who Is Eligible
Boys and girls entering grades K–6 are eligible to participate. Cheerleading for flag football is open to girls entering grades K–1. Cheerleading for tackle football is open to girls entering grades 2-6. Flag football is for boys and girls entering grades K-5. Tackle football has two divisions: the junior division (grades 3-4) and the senior division (grades 5-6).

How to Register
Registration Window: May 21 – July 29, 2011.

***Participants that sign up prior to or on Founders Day (5/21/11) will be put in a drawing for Free Registration

***10% Off Registration Fee for Siblings

NAYFL Offerings
Flag Football

  • Combine/Evaluations - Thompson Park Lower Bowl – Saturday 11am -2pm on August 13
  • Practices start the week of August 15 – Thompson Park Lower Bowl
  • Opening Day August 27th
  • Closing Day October 15th
  • Maroon Division(K-1) (Tuesdays 6pm/Saturdays 2pm)
  • Gold Division(Gr 2-3) (Mondays 6pm/Saturdays 12pm)
  • Eagle Division(Gr 3-5) (Thursdays 6pm/Saturdays 1pm)
  • Fee includes uniform
  • Cost: $100

Transition Program (Flag Football to Tackle Football)

  • Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level
  • Properly prepare kids for the transition to tackle or help them make a better, more informed decision as to whether they want to play tackle football
  • Open to flag football participants in grades 2-5

Cheerleading for Flag Football

  • Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level
  • Will cheer every Saturday during the flag football season at Thompson Park
  • Cheer fees include: cheer t-shirt, pom poms, cheer camp and the year end showcase
  • Squads will be formed the last week in July. The first week of practice will be in early August
  • Cost: $100

Cheerleading for Tackle Football

  • Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level
  • Will cheer every Saturday at Bevelhymer Park during the tackle football season
  • Cheer fees does NOT include: uniform (vest, turtle neck, skirt), pom poms. This is an additional $50 fee (approx.)
  • Cheer camp and the year end showcase
  • Squads will be formed the last week in July. The first week of practice will be in early August
  • Cost: $100

Tackle Football

  • Evaluations will be at Thompson Park on August 1-4 from 6pm-8pm
  • The tackle football team draft will be August 7 and coaches will notify their players immediately following the draft
  • Tackle football practices begin the week of August 8 at Thompson Park (practice days/times are determined by the head coach)
  • Opening day will be August 27 at Bevelhymer Park and the season will end on October 29
  • Youth night (NAHS football game) will be September 9
  • Games will be played at Bevelhymer Park
  • Fee includes jersey with player name on the back
  • Cost: $200

Tackle football practices are held at Thompson Park.
Tackle football games take place at Bevelhymer Park.
Flag football games are held at Thompson Park.

Evaluation Week Schedule (Tackle Football Only)
TBD at Thompson Park from 6:00pm-8:00pm

Cheerleading Camp
cheer camp will be August 8-11 at the 2-5 gym. The K-1 cheerleaders will have camp from 5:30pm-6:30pm. The grades 2-5 cheerleaders will have camp from 6:30pm-7:30pm.
