The basics of football and cheerleading
Our Mission
Acting as a single league since 2008, New Albany Youth Football League’s (NAYFL) mission is to teach the youth of New Albany and surrounding communities the fundamentals of football or the skills to cheer. This instructional league is designed to promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, safety, balanced competition and the respect for teammates, coaches, opponents, parents, and the community. All participants are guaranteed equal playing time.
Who Is Eligible
Boys and girls entering grades K–6 are eligible to participate. Cheerleading for flag football is open to girls entering grades K–1. Cheerleading for tackle football is open to girls entering grades 2-6. Flag football is for boys and girls in grades K-5. Tackle football has two divisions: the junior division (grades 3-4) and the senior division (grades 5-6).
How to Register
Registration begins June 1, 2010
NAYFL Offerings
Flag Football
- K-1 division (Tuesdays 6pm/Saturdays 2pm)
- Grade 2 division (Mondays 6pm/Saturdays 12pm)
- Grades 3-5 division (Thursdays 6pm/Saturdays 1pm)
- 8/14/10 - combine
- 8/15/10 - team draft
- 8/16/10 - practices begin
- Off on Labor Day
- 10/16 - season ends
Cheerleading for Flag Football
- Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level
- Will cheer every Saturday during the flag football season at 2pm at Thompson Park
- Cheer fees include: cheer t-shirt, pom poms, cheer camp (Aug. 9-12) and the year end showcase
- Squads will be formed the last week in July. The first week of practice will be August 2
Cheerleading for Tackle Football
- Cheerleaders will be divided by grade level
- Will cheer every Saturday at Bevelhymer Park during the tackle football season
- Cheer fees include: uniform (vest, turtle neck, skirt), pom poms, cheer camp (Aug. 9-12) and the year end showcase
- Squads will be formed the last week in July. The first week of practice will be August 2
Tackle Football
- Evaluations will be at Thompson Park August 2-6 from 6:00pm-8:00pm
- The tackle football team draft will be August 8 and coaches will notify their players immediately following the draft
- Tackle football practices begin August 10 at Thompson Park
- Games will begin August 28 and will the season will end on October 30
- Games will be played at Bevelhymer Park
Where to Play
Football practices are held at Thompson Park.
Games take place at Bevelhymer Park, Yellow zone fields 9 and 10.
Flag football games are held at Thompson Park.
