The basics of field hockey

The New Albany Field Hockey Club is a non-profit organization that provides girls in grades 6-12 the opportunity to learn and play the game of field hockey.

High School Team (JV/Varsity):

In the Fall of 2010, field hockey became a New Albany High School Club Sport and will remain one for a minimum of two years after which time it will be eligible to become a full varsity sport at New Albany HS. The New Albany Field Hockey Club will continue to manage the Team until it becomes a Varsity Sport. Participation is open to New Albany High School girls (grades 9-12) and all players must adhere to the NAHS Athletics requirements.

Season: The season begins August 1st and ends mid-October. Optional practices will be held the last two weeks of July but all players are required to start August 1st. Practices and home games will at Bevelhymer Park in the yellow zone. Games are played against other school and club teams from the surrounding area and players must provide their own transportation to away games. HS players should expect to practice/play at least 4 days a week.

Cost and Registration: The participation fee is $175 per player and you can register by going to the Online Registration page of this site. Refunds may be requested until the first day of practice after which time refunds are made at the discretion of the Club. 

High School Participation Forms: The following forms must be completed and turned in to the NAHS Athletic Office before you can participate. Coaches will not accept the forms. All forms and documents listed below are PDF files and can be downloaded form the Athletic site of www.napls.us. *Form is to be returned in the envelope.

Equipment Required: Goggles*, stick, mouth guard, shin guards, cleats, black kilt, plain black knee socks and plain white knee socks. Jerseys will be provided and must be returned. *Goggles are a new requirement for 2011. The goggles can be one of two construction types, polycarbonate lens style or a wire frame style and both must meet the ASTM F2713-09 standard. When selecting goggles, note that field hockey and lacrosse goggles are different so verify that your goggles meet the aforementioned standard.

Middle School Team
Coaches: Steve Fireman

The Middle School Team is open to girls in grades 6-8 and no previous experience is required. The team is open to non-residents providing space is available. The season begins August 1st and ends mid-October. Optional practices will be offered the last two weeks of July. Practices and home games will be held at Bevelhymer Park in the yellow zone. Games will be played against other school and club teams from the surrounding area. Players must provide their own transportation to away games. Middle School players should expect to practice/play at least 3 times per week.

Cost and Registration:  The participation fee is $175 per player and you can register by going to the Online Registration page of this site. A $50 Non-resident fee will be applied for all players outside of the New Albany-Plain Local school district. Registration is on a first come basis and preference will be given to NAPL residents if space becomes an issue.
